Introduction
A Panchayat-Level Tree Committee has been constituted to protect trees located along public roads and in public places and to prevent accidents caused by trees or branches that may uproot, break, or fall.
The Committee has been constituted in accordance with the Local Self Government Department Circular No. 248/RC3/2016/LSGD dated 14 July 2017. Since the removal of trees generally requires the approval of the District-Level Tree Committee, the Panchayat-Level Tree Committee has been established to avoid delays and to facilitate timely decisions in emergency situations at the local level.

Major Responsibilities
- Inspect trees and tree branches in public places to determine whether they pose any threat to public safety.
- Take necessary action regarding trees that endanger the life or property of the public.
- Issue directions to owners of private properties to remove trees that are in a hazardous condition.
- Where such directions are not complied with, initiate appropriate legal proceedings and recover the expenses incurred from the concerned property owner.
- Ensure that the valuation of trees proposed for removal is carried out through the Forest Department.
- Coordinate tree protection activities within the Panchayat and ensure a safe and environmentally sustainable public environment.
Objective
The Panchayat-Level Tree Committee functions with the objective of ensuring both public safety and environmental conservation. The Committee strives to prevent accidents caused by hazardous trees while promoting the protection and proper management of trees in public spaces, thereby contributing to the creation of a safer, greener, and more sustainable environment.
