History of Grama Panchayat
Thalappalam Grama Panchayat is an agricultural and cultural heritage village panchayat located in the Meenachil Taluk of Kottayam district. Formed in 1953, this panchayat is spread over an area of 29.92 square kilometers in the Western Ghats midland region. While rubber is the primary crop here, diverse cultivation including coconut, black pepper, banana, coffee, and ginger also thrives in the region. The Thalappalam Rural Library, established in 1948, and the Melampara Mutual Aid Society, formed in 1927, represent the educational and cooperative heritage of the locality. Thalappalam was the domain of literary and theatrical luminaries such as Mahakavi Kattakayam Cherian Mappillai and Devasya Anjoottimangalam.
